Joseph Hyde

Joseph Hyde, 83, of Wakefield passed away on June 27, 2024. He was born on September 13, 1940, in Pawtucket to Sophie Bialkowski. He married his wife, Diane Hyde, on July 8, 1967.


Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Joshua Joseph Hyde and his grandson Nathan Hyde, both of Wakefield.


Joseph served in the military for 34 years. He was a soldier in the US Army unit 134th AHC Vietnam from 1967-1968. Once he returned home, he joined the National Guard in Quonset. He was in the 126th air Cav. Battalion, where he retired as a 1st Sergeant.


Upon retirement, he became the maintenance personnel for Christ the King Church and URI Catholic Center from 2000 – 2012. He then worked as a Sec. Guard dispatcher at NWC in Newport from 2004-2007. He also worked at Potowomut Country Club from 2007-2009. Lastly, he worked at Northup’s service center in Wakefield until his passing.


Joe was an avid reader; he visited the Peace Dale Library often and read 1000 books which he listed on the computer by author and title.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday July 5, 2024, at 11 am in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd, Kingston, RI. Visitation will be held on Friday July 5, 2024, from 9 am to 10 am in Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield, RI 02879. Burial with military honors will follow at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place , Memphis, TN 38105 or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
