Joseph E. Harris

Joseph E. Harris, 74, of Wakefield, died Tuesday. He was the beloved husband of Katherine ((Wilcox) Harris for over forty years. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late William and Nellie R. (Jordan) Harris. Mr. Harris was employed at the University of Rhode Island for many years, retiring in 2000. He attended Georgia College on a basketball scholarship and played baseball for the Palisades. He was the first person to bowl a perfect game of 300 at Old Mountain Lanes in Wakefield and he was a member of the South Kingstown B.P.O.E. Lodge 1899. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Angela Ferrara of Providence; two step-daughters, Sandra Pates and Deidre Ives, both of Wakefield; 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and a sister, Rachel Littlejohn of Georgia. He was the step-father of the late Raymond Pates. Visiting hours are Saturday from 11 a.m. - 1p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home.
