Joseph H. Geary

Joseph H. Geary, 85, of Linden Dr., Kingston, died Wednesday at home. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Aiken) Geary. They were married for sixty years. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Joseph and Cora (O’Connor) Geary. Mr. Geary was the owner of the Ben Franklin Store in Warwick for thirty- two years before retiring. He was a W.W. II US Army Veteran with the rank of Sgt. in the 291st Engineer Combat Battalion, which participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He attended Duke University and was a graduate of Syracuse University. Mr. Geary was a member of the Kingston Congregational Church and a former member of Spring Green Memorial Church in Warwick. He was a past president of the Warwick Rotary Club. He enjoyed fishing, skiing, golf, birding and was a lover of his family and life. He was the father of Robert Geary of CA, Thomas Geary of Wakefield and the late Daniel Geary; brother of Jessie Moylan of Wakefield; grandfather of Ethan Geary of CA and Jackson Geary of Wakefield. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:30 PM in the Kingston Congregational Church, 2610 Kingstown Rd., Kingston. Burial with military honors will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South County Habitat For Humanity, P.O. Box 68, Shannock, RI 02875.
