Joseph R. Gardiner, 88, of Wyoming, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015, in Westerly, RI. He was the beloved husband of the late Arline (Jordan) Gardiner, who died earlier this year. Born in North Kingstown, November 9, 1926, he was a son of the late Theodore and Mazie (Tisdale) Gardiner. Joe was very involved with his local community. He was Past Master of the Charity Lodge No. 23, Past President of the Lions Club, served on the Board of Directors of the RI Builders Assoc. He was also the builder and the developer of Meadowbrook Estates. In the Town of Richmond he was on the Planning Board, Past President of the Town Council, served on the Republican Town Committee, and he also served as the Building Inspector. He was on the Richmond Town Hall Building Committee. He was a strong leader against the Birchwood Landfill. He is survived by two sons, Dennis R. Gardiner and his wife Karen of Wyoming and Robert J. Gardiner of New York; three grandchildren, Robyn Gardiner and Erin Trombino, both of Westerly, and Jason Gardiner of Kingston; two great-grandchildren, Camryn Falcone and Ava Trombino. He is also survived by his brother Theodore Gardiner of Florida. Graveside services for Joe and Arline will be held at a later date.
