Joseph Doherty

Joseph J. Doherty, 94, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at home, Sunday May 10th. He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian (Jacobsen) Doherty. Born in New York, NY, he was a son of the late Francis “Frank” and Phyllis (Strzelecki) Doherty. Mr. Doherty served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a salesman for the NCR Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a former Past Exalted Ruler and 5 year Trustee at the Hamden, CT Elks Lodge 2224. He enjoyed golfing and traveling. He is survived by two daughters Kathleen Mack and Eileen Doherty; a step-daughter Renee Kroll; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Thomas (TJ) Sweeny, Jillian Doherty, Lindsay Dragoo, Vicki Olivo, Dion Hinnant, Rhonda Bayes, and Stephen Kroll; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Skupeen Farmer; and two brothers Edward “Buddy” Skupeen and Charles Skupeen. A service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date when social restrictions are lifted.
