Joseph A. DiOrio, 93, of Wakefield, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013. He was married to the late Ruth E. (Hopkins) DiOrio for 66 years before her passing in 2008. Born in South Kingstown, he was the son of the late James V. and Mary (Bucci) DiOrio. Joe was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran that participated in the D-Day Normandy invasion in France and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for bravery. He worked for C.B. Cottrell Co./ Harris Graphics Corp. (they designed and built printing presses) in Pawcatuck, CT for 44 years before retiring in 1980. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them. He took great joy from gardening and innovative home projects. For those who knew him, his story telling was legendary. He was the father of Joseph J. DiOrio, of Matunuck and Burlington, CT, David B. DiOrio of Lebanon, ME and Julie Quigley Smith of Wakefield; grandfather of Todd DiOrio, Brian Quigley, Elizabeth Aguiar-DiOrio and Catherine Aguiar-DiOrio; great grandfather of six great grandchildren; brother of the late Mary Masiello, Elvira St. Saveur, Andrew DiOrio, Albert DiOrio, Angelina Boisclair, Margaret Ricci, Josephine Moreau, James DiOrio and Albertina Westcott. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial at Saint Francis Cemetery will follow the service. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
