Joseph B. Congdon

Joseph B. Congdon, CHIEF, SKPD, (RET.), 92, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at home. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Wright) Congdon for 56 years. Joe was born in South Kingstown, a son of the late Carl Congdon, Sr. and Lois W. Congdon. A longtime policeman in South Kingstown, Joe saw service with the FBI in the New England region from 1951 to 1953. He was later promoted to Chief of the South Kingstown Police Department. After retirement Joe worked in security services for several local banks. A World War II Army veteran, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Joe is survived by three children: Robert J. Congdon and his wife Jeanne of South Kingstown, Ann E. Senerchia and her husband Anthony of North Kingstown, and Carol J. Zinsser of Wakefield; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Elmer Congdon and Carl Congdon, Jr. A memorial service will be held Saturday February 23, 2013 at 11 AM in the Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia St., Peace Dale, RI. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Betty Congdon Memorial Choral Fund at Peace Dale Congregational Church.
