Joseph T. Calamita

Joseph T. Calamita, 93, of Old Mill Rd., Charlestown, passed away on Sunday March 16, 2025. He was the husband of the late Nina (Diorio) Calamita. Born in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Frank and Rosale (Colmo) Calamita.

Joe joined the Air force in 1951 at the age of 20. He returned home in November of 1955, and married Nina the following spring. The couple stayed in New Jersey where they raised their three children. Joe worked in construction, a member of the laborers’ union. But, in 1973, he moved to Rhode Island to work in Palisades textile dyeing mill in Peace Dale, R.I with his brother-in-law. Joe also was a master gardener at URI later in his life, where he was able to enjoy his hobby of Gardening.

Above all else, family was everything to Joe. He had a close bond his only grandchild, Sasha, whom he lived with along with his daughter and her husband.

Joseph leaves behind his children, Theresa Nobile (Robert), James Calamita, and Joseph Calamita; granddaughter Sasha Maria Nobile; and sister Millie Guarriello.

He is predeceased by his brothers, Thomas, Mario, and Frank Calamita.
