John T. Whitford II, “Jack”, 70, of Peace Dale, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, after a brief illness. Born in Wakefield, he was the son of the late Faith C. (Card) and John T. Whitford. He is survived by his sister Judith W. Adams of Narragansett; his best friend, William P. Babcock and his Godson, Christian Babcock both of Narragansett and many cousins. Jack was a 1964 graduate of South Kingstown High School and a 1968 graduate of URI. He received a M.F.A. in English from McGill University and an M.A. in Education Counseling from URI. He was a teaching fellow and English instructor at McGill University and Dawson College, Montreal. He was a secondary English teacher and Theater Arts Director at Barrington High School from 1974 to 1984. He was the sole proprietor of Video Expressions from 1984 to 1996. He was Senior Programs Supervisor and Creative Writing Instructor for the South Kingstown Parks and Recreation from 1990 until felled by a stroke in 1999. During that time he was the 1995 recipient of the S.K. Parks and Recreation Department “Emily Harvey Award for Outstanding Service”. From 2002 to 2004, he worked for Seniors Helping Others. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity President in 1967. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at 11 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St., Wakefield. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Southern Rhode Island Animal Rescue, 506 Curtis Corner Rd., Wakefield, RI 02879.
