John Vieira

January 4, 1918 — December 5, 2009

John Vieira, 91, of Wakefield, died Saturday. He was the husband of Angelina Vieira for 63 years. Born in Fairhaven, MA, he was a son of the late Bento and Maria (doCarmo) Vieira. Mr. Vieira was an Aircraft Mechanic at Quonset Naval Air Station, retiring in 1973. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WW II in the European Theatre and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the South Kingstown Police Reserves and helped to start the local chapter of the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Vieira was a licensed pilot and was a well known woodworker in South County. Besides his wife he is survived by; a daughter, Ann Marie Vieira of Wakefield; a son, Peter Vieira and his wife Pamela of Burke, VA; a grandson, John Vieira of Burke, VA; and a nephew, Edmund Cabral of Freetown, MA. He was the brother of the late Manuel Vieira and Sophie daSilva. The funeral will be 10:30 AM Saturday from the AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours are Friday 4-7 PM. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, or a charity of one’s choice.
