John K. Vars, 80, of Narragansett, Rhode Island, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Iona Yvonne (Johnson) Vars, with whom they shared 58 years together.

Born in Newport, Rhode Island, on November 29, 1945, to Neil F. and Pauline (Manchester) Vars, John was raised in Rhode Island and attended the University of Rhode Island, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

John proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air National Guard serving six years on active duty and an additional 12 years in the Army Reserve.

In addition to his wife, Iona, he is survived by his daughter, Cathy L. Vars- Wilkerson and her husband Keith of Rumford, RI; her son, Paul D. Vars and husband Andrew T. Wilcox; grandson, Jayden A. Mobley; his siblings, Carol Patenaude, Sharon Rebello and her husband Peter and Debra Jackson and her husband Michael, along with many brother and sister in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Neil and Paul Vars.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 9:30-11:30AM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI 02879 with a Funeral Home Service to immediately follow at 11:30AM. Burial will be held at 1:30PM in the Rhode Island Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 301 S County Trail, Exeter, Rhode Island, 02822.
