John Andrew Tylawsky

October 19, 1954 — January 12, 2022

John Andrew Tylawsky passed away unexpectedly at home on January 12, 2022. Born on October 19, 1954, John met the love of his life, Elizabeth Greene, in 1971 before attending and graduating from SUNY Maritime College in 1976. He spent several years at sea before returning to the land, marrying his soulmate and embarking on a long and distinguished career in the maritime industry. Together, John and Liz had three daughters, Elizabeth, Katherine and Caroline. John delighted in his girls and never missed an opportunity to express his pride in their accomplishments. He was particularly proud of his two granddaughters, Abigail and Evelyn, and could not contain his excitement at the prospect of his first grandson. An avid lover of the sea throughout his life, he especially felt he had come home when he and Liz put down roots in Charlestown, Rhode Island. Sitting on the beach and watching the waves roll in was one of his greatest pleasures in retirement. He passed his love of animals onto his girls and never missed the opportunity to feed a stray or accept a wet nose kiss from a dog. He leaves behind his lifelong partner and wife, Liz, daughters Elizabeth Ciccone (Pino), Katherine Goodrow (Nathan) and Caroline Lustig (Jordan), as well as granddaughters Abigail and Evelyn Goodrow and Lustig grandson. He also leaves behind beloved sister and confidante Stacey Burns, Katherine Salo (Stuart) and brother Gregory Tylawsky (Sally), as well as many dear nieces, nephews, their families, friends and shipmates. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in his name be made to the Charlestown RI Animal Shelter or German Shepherd Rescue of New England. A celebration of life will be held in the spring with details to follow. A sailor through and through, “Fair winds and following seas.”
