John Gerard Sheil, 66, of Narragansett, passed away on March 25, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, on May 8, 1957 to the late James and Janet (Voghel) Sheil, grew up in West Springfield, MA and has resided in Narragansett since 1994.

Besides his wife of 32 years, he leaves three devoted children, Adam Roy and his wife Casey, Lisa Roy, and Johnny Sheil and his wife Anna, one cherished grandchild, Rome Sheil, and a second grandchild due in May. He also leaves his loving siblings Peter (Ellen), Rachel Lacombe, Marianne Britt (Vin), James (Karen), Patrice Afflito (Michael), Kathryn Sady (Edward), Regina Graydon (Noel), Christopher (Diane), Colleen DeVita (Andrew), Margaret Cecchetelli (Tedd), Michael (Debbie), Jeanne Marie Phaneuf (Paul); sister-in-law, Anne Marie Collins (Bruce) and brother-in-law, Robert Collins (Arleen). He was an uncle to forty-one and a great uncle to thirty-six. John was predeceased by his sisters-in-law Donna Sheil and Kathleen Ryan, brothers-in-law Frank Lacombe and Michael Ryan, and nephew Matthew DeVita.

As the sixth child of thirteen children, John was proud of his family and learned to bring people together with the power of positive thinking and humor at an early age. John was a selfless man whose generosity for his family and friends was endless. John was notable for his gifted ability to sell almost anything, from million dollar homes to hip surfing equipment as proprietor of Ride A Wave Surf Shop in Westerly, RI. He could be depended on to get things done through contracts, partnerships and goodwill. John was a member of the National Association of Realtors and the Narragansett Tax Assessment Board.

An entrepreneur at heart and self-made man, John built a 30+ year career in real estate as the founder of the Sheil Realty Team in South Kingstown, RI. John was a loyal real estate agent and always went the extra mile for his clients with his larger than life smile, which typically created a beautiful lifelong friendship. He created Sheil Realty with his focus on honesty, integrity, and excellence which were his natural gifts, and with that dedication, it led him and his son Johnny to become one of RI’s elite real estate teams that will live on as his legacy. John was incredibly proud when his son, Johnny, joined him in the business eight years ago.
