John A. Ryan, 86, of Edgewood, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was the husband of Mary V. (Murphy) for 63 years. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late James and Agnes (McGrory) Ryan. Mr. Ryan was a WW II US Navy Veteran. He was Chief of Relocation in the Providence Redevelopment Agency, working for the City of Providence for 30 years before retiring in 1991. He was a 1964 graduate of Providence College and a communicant of St. Paul Church. Mr. Ryan was a devoted husband and loving father of Michael Ryan and his wife Lynne, Stephen Ryan and his wife Kathleen, Maureen Graziano and her late husband Robert, Margy Ryan, John Ryan and his wife Maureen, Thomas Ryan and his wife Maureen, Annmarie Ryan and Mark Ryan; brother of Paul Ryan and the late James and Richard Ryan; grandfather of fifteen and great grandfather of four. The funeral will be Thursday 8:45 a.m. from Woodlawn-Gattone Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave, Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul Church, 1 St. Paul Place, Cranston. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7 p.m. in Woodlawn-Gattone Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Care of RI or The Seasons, East Greenwich.
