Dec 2, 1930 — Oct 28, 2026
Kingston, RI
John R. Reynolds, 95, of Kingston, RI, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Nadia Samoiloff Reynolds, Jack was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He attended Providence College and then went on to work in New York City before returning to CT to start his family. He and Nadia eventually settled in Kingston, RI in 1970 where they raised their three children and made their home.
Known as JR and Jack to his friends and family, he attended Hillhouse High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He and his teammates were the New England Basketball Champions, and his athletic accomplishments earned him a scholarship to Providence College. At PC, JR continued to play basketball and baseball and joined the ROTC. Upon graduation in 1954, he was appointed as a second Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers, subsequently promoted to first Lieutenant. He served for 2 years at Fort Belvoir, VA, where he continued to play basketball and baseball for the Army. During his Army service, he had the unique opportunity to play alongside and against several players who would later become Hall of Famers.
Following his military service, JR returned to New Haven, CT, where he worked as a claims adjuster and more importantly, met Nadia. They married in 1960 and moved to Staten Island, where JR commuted to New York City while working for U.S. Steel Co. He often said that marrying Nadia was one of the greatest blessings of his life. As they began their family, they moved to Stamford, CT. where they lived until 1970. That year, they settled in Kingston, RI, after JR began working as a sales engineer with Durastone Flexicore. Soon after he started his favorite job as a real estate broker for Munroe Realtors, where he enjoyed considerable success.
JR was known for his quick wit and wonderful personality. He and Nadia enjoyed Friday night tennis, followed by dinner in Newport with their tennis group. They enjoyed traveling, and some of their favorite destinations included Ireland, Russia, London and Greece. He also enjoyed Wednesday afternoon golfing, followed by cards at Laurel Lane Country Club. A lifelong athlete, JR continued to play competitive softball and basketball in local leagues.
He looked forward to his weekly Saturday morning breakfast at the bowling alley with his buddies, as well as attending 8 a.m. Sunday Mass. at Christ the King Church.
JR was a modest and humble man who loved the company of his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchild who lovingly called him “Papa” and eventually, “Great Papa”.
In his own words, he felt his best qualities were always putting his family first, having a sense of humor, and being a good role model to his children and grandchildren. He hoped to be remembered as a good provider, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. And he certainly was. He had a great life.
“When I awake in heaven, I will be fully satisfied, for I will see you face to face”. Psalm 17:15.
He is survived by his sons, Peter Reynolds and his wife Suzi of Fort Myers, FL and Paul Reynolds and his fiancée Stacie Girard of Kingston, RI; his daughter, Nadine “DeeDee” Gill and her husband Bain of Medfield, MA; his grandchildren, Peter Gill and his fiancée Kayla Schmalz, Natalie Gill Foley and her husband Andrew, Dana Gill Varinos and her husband Elias, and Tommy Gill and his great grandchild, William Foley.
