John W. Miller Jr., a devoted husband, passionate historian, and longtime marketing professional, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16th, at the age of 92. Born in Providence, RI, John moved with his family to Narragansett shortly after his birth, where he grew up and graduated from South Kingstown High School in 1950. He went on to study at Williams College in Williamstown, MA, where he earned a BA in Art History, a field that sparked his lifelong love of learning and the arts.
After college, John moved to New York City, where he embarked on a successful 30+ year career in marketing, working with firms such as Benton & Bowes and Warwick & Legler, among others. His work was marked by dedication, creativity, and a deep commitment to his clients.
Upon retiring, John returned to his beloved Narragansett, where he found fulfillment in volunteering with the Narragansett Historical Society and serving on the board of the South County Museum. His passion for local history was evident in his tireless efforts to preserve and share the rich heritage of his community.
Above all, John will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 64 years, Emily (Henderson). Their bond was an example of enduring love and mutual respect. John is also survived by his sister, Carolyn R. Marsella of Warwick, RI.
John’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him—through his contributions to his community, his commitment to his family, and the quiet kindness he extended to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed.
