John Cyrus Hoyle, 87, a lifelong Richmond resident, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, on Friday February 23rd. He was the beloved husband of Sallie (Stedman) Hoyle for 61 years. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late Henry D. and Muriel (Kenyon) Hoyle. Mr. Hoyle retired from the New England Telephone & Telegraph Company. He served honorably in the United States Air Force in the European Theatre, during the Korean Conflict. He was the loving father of two daughters, Christina Sharkey and her husband Thomas of Richmond and Heidi Blacklock and her husband Glenn of Richmond; five grandchildren, Patrick Sharkey, Lauren Sharkey, Brian Sharkey, Nathaniel Blacklock and Jacob Blacklock; and six great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Rosalind Haring and Henry Douglas Hoyle. John and Sallie traveled the world but his favorite place would always remain his family farm in Richmond. He was an avid golfer and cribbage player, teaching cribbage at the senior center in his later years. He loved reading and keeping apprised of world events. John was an animal lover and spent many days traveling the back roads with his faithful dog Abby by his side. Funeral and burial services will be private. His family will host a celebration of his life at the family farm this spring.
