John E. Houston, of Charlestown, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at his home on August 5, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born on May 23, 1939, John was the son of the late Louis R. and Melvina (Young) Houston. He was predeceased by his former wives, Janice Houston, Daisey Houston and Marion Houston.

John worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator, a profession he took great pride in. He also worked at the South Kingstown Transfer Station loading trucks along with Ocean State Transit as a bus monitor where he loved teasing the bus students daily. John was a hardworking and dedicated man who valued his family and the life they built together. Among his many passions, some of his favorite things were his tractors, tinkering and being a caretaker at Border Hill Park.

John will be lovingly remembered by his children, Ed Houston, Lonny Houston, Gregg Brusseau, Hollie Tettlo, Jodi LaCroix, Tammy Renfrow; and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Zabel.

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on through the many generations of his family.

A burial will take place on Friday, August 21st at 10 in White Brook Cemetery, Richmond, RI.
