John "Chris" Horan, 70, died suddenly on Wednesday. He was the beloved husband of Marie(Tagliabue) Horan and they were married 47 years. Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late Patrick J. and Ellen M. (Killoran) Horan. He attended Cranston Public Schools and graduated from the University of Rhode Island. After URI, he was the operations manager for the Dairy Plant at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. He then received his Masters degree in Food Science and Dairy Technology from Michigan State University. Mr. Horan was employed by the HP Hood Company, Charlestown, MA, IDS, Lincoln, RI, Cumberland Farms, Canton, MA and the Stonyfield Farm, Londonderry, NH, from which he retired in December of 2000. He served in the Army Reserves and Army National Guard and he was a member of the Schooner Cove Homeowners Association, serving as Treasurer. Besides his wife he leaves three children, Joan Fisher and her husband Daniel of Ft. Wayne, IN, Mary Ellen Horan of Reading, MA, Catherine Gray and her husband Michael of Reading, MA, eight grandchildren, Alex, Andrew and Matthew Fisher, Rebecca and Sarah Crowley, Thomas, Joshua and Madeleine Gray, a brother James Horan and his wife Mary Lineberger of Providence, RI and many cousins in Ireland and England and many dear friends. He will be remembered as being devoted to his family, friends, garden and being very proud of his Irish Heritage. The Funeral will be 8:45 AM Saturday from the AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Road, Narragansett. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours will be Friday 4-8 PM.
