John Joseph Gilgun (86) passed away on November 25, 2023. Born in South Kingstown, September 27, 1937, he was the son of James and Rose (Costanza) Gilgun.
John relocated to Central Falls in 1970 and later Pawtucket. John attended Our Lady of Providence Preparatory High School - transferred to and graduated from South Kingstown High School. John is an alumnus of Emerson College in Boston where he was President of his senior class and a member of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges".
John is a NATO Alliance Europe U.S. Army Veteran, serving with Elvis Presley and author of the short story: "Laugh And Cry With Elvis in The Army" John spent winters in Florida, traveled extensively through Europe including Castel di Tusa in Sicily and also visited Hong Kong and Beijing China
John was a teacher at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Academy, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Automobile Dealers Association and Administrator of the Consumer Protection Division of the Rhode Island Attorney General. John was a Member of Council 57 Knights of Columbus - Pawtucket and he served as a Rhode Island State Senator - Central Falls 1977-1987 and Deputy Majority Leader of the State Senate third in line to the Governor and served as Governor for one day.
John was preceded by his brother Brian Gilgun and is survived by his sisters Frances (Gilgun) Mulhall and husband Jack, Jane Gilgun, brother Paul Gilgun and many friends and relatives.
