John J. Fawcett, 86, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Home on March 3. He was born in Providence, the son of John J. Fawcett and Ruth Fawcett and resided in North Providence most of his life. John was the devoted and beloved husband of the late Aline (Perron) Fawcett and of the late Virginia Varone. John is survived by his children, Joanne Costello (Jim) of East Greenwich, Kathy Wilm (Ted) of Anaheim CA, David Fawcett of North Kingstown, Michael Fawcett (Beatriz) of London, and Judith Tally (John) of Narragansett. He was a loving and fun grandfather to Rachel, John, Daniel, Lily, Sean, Edward, Jackson, Grant, Anna, and Aurelien and great grandfather to Emma and Audrey. John is survived by his devoted brother, Stephen Fawcett, of Lawrence, KS (Kathleen) and by his dear friend, Fr. Raymond Tetreault. John was a 1952 graduate of LaSalle Academy and a graduate of St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore and Boston University (MA Journalism). He worked in public relations throughout his career at St. Joseph Hospital, the RI Department of Health, and South County Hospital. He was a talented and creative writer and photographer. John was committed to service to others, delivering meals with Meals on Wheels and serving as a hospice volunteer for many years. He took pride in always advocating for the those who could not advocate for themselves and taught that lesson to his children and grandchildren. He found great joy in jogging (way before it became popular), photographing family, riding waves, watching the Red Sox, digging for quahogs at Duck Cove, and canoeing on Maranacook Lake. He never lost his sense of humor even after experiencing many health challenges. John and his family are forever grateful to the staff at St. Elizabeth Home for their incredible dedication and compassion during his time as a resident there.
