John Eppich

July 30, 1934 — July 16, 2021

Age 86, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Linda (Hood) Eppich, and they were married for 61 years. John was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late John Emil Eppich and Dorothey (Terepka) Eppich. He is survived by son Steven Eppich and wife Lisa Eppich, daughter Susan (Eppich) deCone and husband Ian deCone, and four grandchildren, Evan and Anna deCone and Andrew and Thomas Eppich. John’s brother, Robert Eppich, resides in Wawasee, Indiana. John served in the US Army from 1954-56 and then graduated from the Ohio State University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, later earning an MBA from the University of Michigan. He worked at Brown & Sharpe for 33 years, retiring as Treasurer in 1997. John was a very active person traveled internationally for both work and pleasure. He was a member of the 4000 Footer Club of the White Mountains, and hiked other sites in New England, the Southwest, Washington state and California, Nepal, New Zealand and Alaska. Sailing was another interest of the family, and many days were spent on Narragansett Bay with friends. He skied in northern New England and the Rockies in the winter seasons. He raced sports cars at race tracks in New England and New York. In his later years, golf and gym exercise were his favorite leisure activities. John focused his interests at home on the family with garden and technical projects, employing his engineering skills. Holiday gatherings, beach walks, and jazz or classical concerts were also favorites. A celebration of John Eppich’s life will be a private function with family and friends. Memorial donations can be made in John’s name to the Appalachian Mountain Club, 10 City Square, Boston, MA 02129.
