John E. DeCubellis, Sr., 86, of Wakefield, RI, died peacefully at Scallop Shell Nursing Home on Sunday, April 24, 2022. He was the former husband of Lucille M. (Vellone) Smith. John was the eldest son of the late Antonio J. and Anna E. (Perry) DeCubellis and lived most of his life in the family home that his father had lovingly built. He worked for the University of Rhode Island Police Department for thirty-three years before retiring as Captain in 1985. John was a United States Air Force Veteran and a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 33 and the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club Chapter 1-RI. John was a master at painting and refinishing furniture and was the owner and operator of John DeCubellis Paper & Painting for over fifty years. He was a walking encyclopedia of painting knowledge and had a gift for mixing and matching colors and stains. He was often called upon to “work his magic” for many people in the South County area. John is survived by his two sons, Judge John E. DeCubellis, Jr. and his wife Meg of Narragansett and Michael DeCubellis and his wife Sarah of Chittenden, Vermont. He was the brother of Vicki Lynn Uthus, Anthony DeCubellis, Maria Brown, Katherine Young and the late Barbara Janson, Phyllis Hinners, A. James DeCubellis Jr., and twins Rosemary Northup & Roseann Lyskawa. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Kyle DeCubellis, Michael DeCubellis, Eliza (DeCubellis) Kelly, Emma DeCubellis and the late Katie DeCubellis. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his great grandchildren Ella, Lucy, Luca, Max, John Paul and Addy. Visiting hours will be held Friday, April 29, 2022 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd., Kingston.
