John J. Champlin, 92, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 at South County Hospital. He was the husband of the late Hope (Gardiner) Champlin and longtime companion of June Champlin; father of Richard Champlin, John Champlin Jr, Cheryl Dyer and Rose Mary Lamb; brother of Leon, Robert and James Champlin; grandfather of twelve and great grandfather of twelve. Mr. Champlin was a W.W. II US Navy Veteran. He was a lifelong commercial fisherman out of Pt. Judith and owner of F/V Hope Richard, F/V CW Marden, F/V Cheryl Rose and F/V Cathy and Willie. He enjoyed his morning coffee club with his Pt. Judith Friends. Funeral Friday 8:45 a.m. from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pt. Judith Fisherman’s Scholarship Fund.
