John J. Astley

John J. Astley, of Wakefield, formerly of Barrington, died Monday. He was the husband of Agnes (Caetano) Astley for 57 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John J. and Margarita (Dunn) Astley. He was a graduate of Hope High School in Providence. Mr. Astley was manager for Tower Manufacturing, where he retired from and he was former President of Stamping, Inc. He was a US Navy Korean War Veteran serving on the USS Midway. Besides his wife he is survived by three children and their spouses, John and Kathy Astley of Norfolk, MA, Karen Astley-Moore and James Moore of Zionsville, IN, and Susan Astley-Cass and Col. Oliver Cass of Potomac, MD; a sister, Marguerite “Norma” Sollitto of Southwick, MA; and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday at St. Romuald Chapel, Atlantic Avenue, Matunuck. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Thursday, 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 2374 Post Road, Suite 206, Warwick, RI 02886 or VNA of RI, 475 Kilvert Street, Warwick, RI 02886.
