Joan M. Burrell, 82, of Broad Rock Rd., Wakefield, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in South Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Iola (Whitford) Hazard. She was the wife of the late Harry Burrell and companion of Charles Hall. Mrs. Burrell worked in housekeeping for the University of Rhode Island for twenty eight years before retiring. She previously worked as an aide at the former Meadowbrook Nursing Home. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed reading her Bible, cooking and taking care of her family. She was the mother of Joan M. Pemberton of Narragansett, Cheryl A. Burrell, Robert C. Burrell, Sharon M. Burrell and Robert C. Burrell Jr. all of Wakefield, the late William C. Hazard and Harry T. Burrell Jr.; sister of Katherine E. Hall of Exeter, Iola E. Valles of Narragansett, Beverly I. Noka of Wakefield, Joyce M. Sewell of North Kingstown, Dennis C. Hazard of Narragansett, the late Donald R. Hazard and Frederick M. Hazard. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and two great great granddaughters. The funeral will be held Tuesday, May, 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., with visiting hours prior from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be private.
