Jeffrey Wallen Steere

Jeffrey Wallen Steere, 70, of West Kingston, passed away at home on Monday surrounded by his family, after a personal and hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was a son of the late Carlton Kemp and Nancy Louise Webb Steere and brother to the late Carlton Kemp Steere Jr. He is survived by two loving daughters, Keri Steere Beatrice and Kendra Stringer both of West Kingston; four siblings Carla Jordan, Gretchen Bugbee, Carlton ‘Kip’ Steere III, and Peter Steere of Rhode Island; and four cherished grandchildren, Catherine Rose Beatrice, Matthew Beatrice, Jordan Foreman, and Ayden Stringer. Jeff served his country in the Air Force and his community after his return from active duty; first in the Kingston Fire Department where he rose to the rank of Chief and later at the T.F. Green Airport Fire Department. Jeff retired from TF Green Fire Department after over 18 years of service, as a Captain. Additionally, Jeff was a Charter Member of the West Kingston Fire Department, a member of the Firefighters Relief Board of South Kingstown and Chairman of the Board of Wardens of the South Kingstown Union Fire District. Beyond his many professional accomplishments he was also active within the South Kingstown Republican Town Committee, nonprofit organizations that encompassed his love of the outdoors including Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club Int., the NRA and numerous Shooting Clubs and Organizations throughout Rhode Island and New England. In his spare time Jeff was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and devoted dog owner. Visiting hours will be at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, on Saturday from 1-3 PM followed by a service immediately following visiting hours. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598, in memory of Jeff’s love of dogs and the outdoors.
