Jean M. (Champlin) Spears of Charlestown died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at South County Hospital on November 14, 2012. She was the beloved wife of Robin S. Spears, Sr. for over 50 years. Born in South Kingstown, RI she was the daughter of Jane V. (Reels) Champlin and the late Cassius A. Champlin, Jr. She was the granddaughter of the late Chief Sachem of the Narragansett Indian Tribe, Cassius A. Champlin. Mrs. Spears was a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. She was a homemaker and business partner of Robin Spears & Sons Masonry and much, much more than words can say. Jean loved animals and spending time with her family and friends. She was “mom” to many other children along with her own. She was the matriarch of her family and was loved throughout the community. Her infectious smile brought joy to all. We will all miss her deeply. Besides her husband, she is survived by seven sons, Robin S. Spears, Jr., Cassius C. Spears, Macheece O. Spears, Shane T. Spears, Shannon L. Spears, Cayne V. Spears, Lance A. Spears and just like another son Eric C. Northup; three daughters, Windy W. Dey, Sandy S. Spears; and Destiny R. Spears; three brothers, Roger A. Champlin, Raphael A. Champlin, and Rodney A. Champlin; four sisters, Janice C. Spears, Jane V. Potter, Judy A. Stanton, and June M. Burrell; 26 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Joyce J. Reels. No calling hours, burial will be private.
