Mary “Jean” (Affinito) Maletta of Point Judith RI, passed away on July 5, while surrounded by her husband and three sons. Jean is survived by her husband, John, her three sons: John, Jr. and his wife Khara, of South Kingstown; Christopher, of Narragansett; Matthew and his wife Kelli, of Kahuku, Hawaii; and five grandchildren, Jacob, Sarah, John III, Ryan, and Ginger. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Thomas and Mary Affinito and her brother, Thomas. Jean is also survived by her two unofficially adopted sons, Robert Kelly and Robert Graham, both of South Kingstown, as well as cousins, nephews, and nieces. Jean was born in Meriden CT, on May 31, 1941. Jean graduated from Mary Burnham School in Northampton, Massachusetts. She attended Skidmore College. Jean graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut in 1964. She later earned a Masters degree in Education from St. Joseph's College, in Hartford, CT. Jean and John were married on April 4, 1964. They lived for many years in Simsbury, Connecticut, and spent summers in Point Judith, RI. In 1993, Jean and John moved to Point Judith full time while also maintaining a second home in Rincon, Puerto Rico, where Jean was active in ARF, an animal rescue organization. Jean taught at Fox Middle School in Hartford, CT for 13 years. All who ever met Jean were charmed by her warmth, her great humor, her generosity, her kindness, her smile, her strength, and her tenderness. She was a hostess supreme and the most welcomed guest one could ever entertain. More than anything, Jean was a wife, mother, grandmother, devoted family member, and a friend to many. Jean will be deeply missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Road, Narragansett. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Friday 4-7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Rhode Island Chapter, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906, www.alz.org/ri.
