After a courageous battle with Cancer, Jean Murray De Angelis passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of Narragansett, RI and had wintered in Ft Myers, Florida since 1985. She was the wife of Louis J. De Angelis, married for over 63 years. She was the daughter of the late Raymond L. and Mary W. (McNulty) Murray, and she was sister of the late Patricia A. Murray and Raymond L. Murray Jr. She was the mother of Paul, Ann, Steven, Matthew (Cheryl) and Jeana, had 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her son Louis J. De Angelis Jr. As a teenager growing up in East Providence, Jean was a plane spotter during WWII. She attended St. Marys Academy, Bay View and Bryant College. Before her marriage she was employed at New England Telephone Company. After raising her six children she re-entered the workforce as a field agent for the US Census Bureau. After retiring she became very involved in charitable work including volunteering for South County Hospital for over 25 years. She was also a member of the General Federation of Womens Clubs, South County Chapter where she held many positions and eventually became Chapter President. She was a loving mother to her children and also to many of her childrens friends. There were always extra people sitting at the dinner table or enjoying a cup of coffee with her while discussing their problems. She touched the lives of everyone she met and she will always be remembered for her warmth and kindness and will be sadly missed. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 22 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the Avery Storti Funeral Home 88 Columbia St, Wakefield . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 23 at 10:00am in St Marys Star of the Sea Church 864 Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
