Jay Z. James, Sr., 93, of Cary, NC, formerly of Narragansett, RI, died peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2014 of natural causes. Born in Pittsburgh, PA son of the late Julius and Elizabeth (Blazer) James, he was predeceased by his wife of many years, Patricia Rochford James and is survived by children: Jay Z. James, Jr. and wife Beverly of California, Judith James of North Carolina, Janis James and husband Gary Hetzler of Ireland, Jill James of California, Jeffrey James and wife Kathy of Rhode Island, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He served with the Seabees during World War II and was a graduate of Brown University, Class of 1946. Jay worked for the New England Electric System for forty years in sales management positions. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Point Judith Country Club. He was involved in community activities and politics in the many communities where he lived. He was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Relatives and friends may call at Avery-Storti Funeral Home at 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, on Thursday, September 11 from 4-6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 12 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett. Burial with military honors will follow at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
