Janis Cottrell Recher, 84, of Wakefield, died Saturday, September 8, 2012, in Saratoga Springs, NY, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Rudolph Recher. Born in East Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late John and Helen (Smith) Cottrell. Mrs. Recher earned her RN degree from Rhode Island Hospital in 1949. She was a member of the RI Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and the Village at Worden’s Pond Women’s Club. She is survived by a son, Bruce C. Recher (Kathy) of Deephaven, MN; a daughter, Debra R. Possidente (Bernard) of Saratoga Springs, NY; five grandchildren (Jeff and Mark Recher, and Peter, Maria and Thomas Possidente); two sisters, Gertrude Hawksley and Patricia Salisbury, of South Kingstown, two brothers, Oliver Cottrell of South Kingstown and Richard Cottrell of Exeter. She was the sister of the late J. Jesse Cottrell, Edith Boothroyd, Marion Roehl and Elma Christopher. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 29th at 1 pm at the Kingston Congregational Church, 2610 Kingstown Road, Kingston. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the RI Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 02907.
