Janice S. Causey

Janice S. Causey, (Smart), 68, of Charlestown, passed away unexpectedly while spending time with friends Wednesday morning, September 3, 2014. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Howard Randall Smart and Elisabeth (Rice) Smart of Lincoln, RI. Janice earned her Master of Fine Arts degree at RISD. She was an art teacher at Sturbridge, MA, Culver Military Academy in Indiana, Narragansett Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, and South Kingstown School System for over 30 years, where she continued to substitute after her retirement. Janice was a student of life and a passionate artist inside and out. She was a mother, a mentor, a sister, grandmother, daughter, cousin, friend, artist, surf instructor, and an inspiration to the many lives she touched. She affected many people in so many ways by either offering advice, a hand, lessons, time, a smile or just a comforting shoulder to anyone who needed her. She loved the ocean and could be found at Narragansett Town Beach on any given day. She will be missed by so many. She is survived by her son Christopher Causey and his wife Courtney of Charlestown; a brother Jeffrey Smart and his wife Karen of Aspen, CO; a grandson Tyler Baxter; several cousins and many friends. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, September 7, 2014, 3-7 pm in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. A celebration of life will be held at Narragansett Town Beach Sunday September 14, 2014 at 5 pm.
