Janette H. (Brown) Nielson, 80, wife of the late Ed Nielson, passed away at home on Thursday, May 22, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Janette worked as Tax Collector for the town of Charlestown for over 30 years until she retired in 1996, remaining active in town activities during her retirement including volunteering at the voting centers. Janette was the sister of Donald Brown of Charlestown and the late Lorraine Thompson of Cranston. She is survived by her four daughters, Denise Pearce and her husband Brian of Bradford; Susan Cross and her husband Jacques of Charlestown; Pamela Drake of Carolina; and Sandra Ainsworth of West Kingston; and her son Douglas Hopkins and his wife Heather of North Kingstown. Janette will be missed by her eight grandchildren Traci Pearce, Ronald Wall, Michelle Dinucci, Rene Drake, Shane Drake, Eric Ainsworth, Samuel Ainsworth and Justin Hopkins, as well as her nine great grandchildren. She was the mother-in-law of the late David Drake. Janette will always be remembered for her singing - she had a show tune for every occasion and taught them to all her children and grandchildren. She had a lively, spitfire personality - full of life and fun with a great sense of humor. She loved going to the Casino with her friends or family. In the last several years, Janette was fortunate to be able to live near her grandson, Ron, and his wife, Nichola who especially helped and cared for "Gram". In recent years Janette was adopted by Mr. Mongo, a cat who became her great companion while she was well and who stayed by her side throughout her illness. Janette was greatly loved and will be missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday May 30, 2014 at 10 am in St. Mary Church, 437 Carolina Back Road, (Rt. 112). Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
