Janet P. Poirier

September 30, 1931 — July 26, 2023

Janet P. Poirier (Proulx), 91, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2023. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Poirier and the late Richard Buscher. Born in Burrillville, RI, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Louise (Tatro) Proulx.


Janet worked for many years at Zambarano Hospital in Burrillville and The University of Rhode Island in South Kingstown. She retired from URI in 1994 and volunteered for many years at St. Thomas More Church and South County Hospital. Janet loved spending time with her family.


She leaves behind her children, Cheryl Kennedy, Michael Bernard, and James Bernard. Stepchildren, Stephen Poirier, Clifford Poirier, Melanie Poirier, Vincent Buscher, Kathy DiFabio, John Buscher, the late Robin Finckler, and the late Richard Buscher. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her siblings Celeste, Russell, Rita, and Gerald.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 10 AM in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland St, Narragansett, RI 02882. Burial will immediately follow at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours will be held from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM on Monday, July 31, 2023, in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield, RI 02879.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Johnny Cake Center, 22 Kersey Rd. South Kingstown, RI 02879.
