Janet May Blackwell

Janet May Blackwell nee Arnold, 77, of West Kingston, died peacefully with her family around her on Saturday, June 5th, in the early morning. She was a warm, caring, unpretentious person of faith, who loved to dance and was active and valued in her communities; an innovative, creative, educator who started her own school and taught curriculum internationally. Jan was a wonderful daughter, teacher, wife, neighbor, mother, sister, grandmother, friend. She is survived by her loving husband Peter McGaw Blackwell; her children Megan Glidden (Billy), Bronwyn Maguire (Rick), and Evan Blackwell (Christine Gavin); and her beloved grandchildren Owen and Andrew Glidden and Cein and Eamon Maguire. She was the sister of Carol MacKenzie (Malcolm), Arthur Arnold (Betty), Marilyn Cooney (James), and the late James Pettis (Ethel). In place of a wake, a celebration of life in a "Coffee Hour" style will be held from 3 to 7pm on Thursday, June 10th, at the Matunuck Community Field House, 619 Matunuck Beach Rd, South Kingstown, RI. Additionally, a memorial service will be held outdoors on June 13th at 50 Fairhaven Avenue, Swansea MA at 11:30am with lunch to follow. All are welcome. Burial will be held privately.
