Jane V. Potter

February 17, 1947 — December 28, 2024

Jane V. Potter, 77, of Wakefield, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Clinton H. Potter, Sr. for 56 years. Born in South Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late Cassius and Jane (Reels) Champlin.

Jane worked at CANE Child Development Center for over 30 years, starting out as an administrator and ultimately becoming the director before retiring. After retirement, she remained connected to the community by working part-time at the Welcome House and volunteering at the Jonnycake Center. Jane was the Secretary/Treasurer for Peace Dale Estates for many years. She was an active member of the Community Church of God in Wakefield.

Jane was a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribal community and was an active participant and organizer of senior events and programming, serving as the secretary of the Narragansett Silver Clouds elders.

Jane will be remembered for her style and verve. She loved to express herself through fashion, especially shoes. She was known for her positive attitude, her grace and strength, and a laugh that could fill a room. She was the stabilizing force in her family, stepping up and providing support, guidance, care, and tough love for her sons, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and extended family. Cookouts will not be the same without her soulful culinary contributions.

She is survived by two sons, Clinton Potter, Jr. and Kyle Potter, four grandchildren, Todielle, Cheyauna, Leah, and Teagan, and her six siblings, Janice Spears, Judy Stanton, June Burrell, Roger Champlin, Rayfield Champlin, and Rodney Champlin. She was the sister of the late Joyce Reels and Jean Spears.

Jane’s visitation and funeral will be held Friday, January 3, 2025, from 10 AM to 12 PM, with a funeral home service at noon at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield. Private burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jonnycake Center, 22 Kersey Rd., South Kingstown, RI 02879.
