Jane F. Mccarthy

April 21, 1938 — September 14, 2025

Jane Frances Farrell McCarthy died peacefully at her home in Narragansett, RI surrounded by her family.


She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Gerald Michael McCarthy; three daughters, Mary Elizabeth McCarthy-Tiella (Gino Tiella) of Henniker, NH, Eileen McCarthy of West Hartford, CT, Kate McCarthy (Jeremy Bond) of West Hartford, CT; seven grandchildren, Mae Braley (Tyler Braley) of Franklin, NH, Anna Akopian (Mike Akopian) of Washington, DC, Adrian Tiella (Cassidy Tiella) of Narragansett, RI, Miles McCarthy-Reynolds of Portland, Oregon, Sarah McCarthy-Reynolds of West Hartford,Ct, Cheili Bond of West Hartford,CT, Midehlia Bond of West Hartford,Ct; two great grandchildren, Ellie Gianna Braley and Luca Jack Braley of Franklin, NH; her older sister Marie Ziolkowsky of East Greenwich, RI and many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.


She is predeceased by her parents, Thomas Patrick Farrell and Elizabeth Hope Emmel Farrell; her brother, Thomas Farrell; and her sisters, Betty Tranghese and Patrica Schissler.


Jane was born in Providence, RI and was a descendant of Irish immigrants from Counties Longford and Clare. She graduated from St Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1958 and was the Vice President of her class. Jane went on to get her bachelor of science degree from St Joseph’s College in Maine, Class of 1993. She was the Infection Control Nurse at Day Kimball Hospital in Connecticut for 25 years. After her retirement, she worked in the same specialty at South County Hospital in RI.


Jane was a lover of books, both reading and writing and even authored 3 books, the last of which she completed the week she died. She was passionate about travelling all over the world with Gerry. She also loved the beach and was an avid swimmer her entire life.

A Mass of Chrisitan burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 17th at 11am at St Mary’s Star of the Sea, 864 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett, RI. Mass will be followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon at Arturo Joe’s, 140 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett. All are welcome.
