James Weeks

April 11, 1942 — April 4, 2025

James Earl Weeks, 82, of Narragansett passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 4, 2025, following a courageous fight with cancer.

Born in Scotia, Nebraska, on April 11, 1942, James was the son of the late George Earl Weeks and Mary Florence (Beck) Weeks.

James joined the Navy following high school, moving from the farmland to the ocean where he came to love being on the water. A jack of all trades. There was nothing James could not do from carpentry, farming, gardening, boating, ship fitting, teaching, learning and singing in the church choir. He loved family more than anything, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who he taught several games from checkers to cornhole. Sunday afternoons could be spent on the beach going up the river with friends and family.

James attended Johnson and Wales, receiving an Associate Degree in Business. He was self-employed as a carpenter for many years before working at Electric Boat for 30 years. In “retirement”, James was an instructor at New England Tech, sharing his knowledge of ship fitting. He was also a member of St. Thomas Moore and Saint Veronica‘s where he was most fond of singing in the choir. James had a love of everything, nature, animals, family, and walking several miles a day.

James is survived by his wife, Sandra Weeks, his children, Colleen weeks of McMinnville Tennessee, Michelle Hayes, and husband, Ben of Woodbury, Tennessee, James, Earl Weeks, Jr of Narragansett, and Kristin (Halvorson) O’Malley of Narragansett. His brothers, David Weeks of Scotia, Nebraska and Calvin Weeks of Waverly, Nebraska. James also leaves 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

James is predeceased by his brothers, Luther Weeks, Ethan Weeks, Daniel Weeks and sister, Ellen Weeks and his grandson, Nicholas Duckworth.
