James P. Provensal

James P. Provensal, 44, of Wakefield, RI, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 31, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving and devoted husband of Emilia (Tavares) Provensal for twenty one years and loving and proud father of Zacharie James and Sarah Elizabeth Provensal. Jim was a teacher for the South Kingstown High School for the last ten years and previously for the Smithfield High School. He was a very devout Catholic and was involved in the St. Thomas More Parish in Narragansett. He was a 1991 graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a History major, a member of SAE Fraternity and received his Masters Degree in 1998 from Providence College. He was a hockey coach for the Jr. Rams, a baseball coach for the South Kingstown Little League, a soccer coach for SCYSC and a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed writing, gardening and spending time with his wife and kids at the beach, canoeing and camping. He was the beloved son in law of Olivia L. Tavares and the late Manuel Tavares; brother in law of Robert M. Tavares and his wife Jessie and their daughters, Maya and Lauren; and Christina L. Nichols and her husband Jeffry and their son, Carter and late son Carson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday June 3, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland St., Narragansett. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale, RI. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Jim may be made to the James P. Provensal Memorial Fund, payable to Emilia Provensal c/o Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI 02879 would be appreciated.
