James L. O’Brien, of Charlestown, R.I. died Sunday, January 31, 2021. Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Edmund J. and Anne (Lawrence) O’Brien. James was the husband for 59 years of the late Joan (McClosky) O’Brien. James was a 1949 graduate of Hartford Public High School. James was employed in the truck leasing business for over 30 years. James served 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Staff Sargent. James and Joan raised their family in Wethersfield, CT until 1996 when they retired to Charlestown, R.I. James belonged to the Narragansett Lions Club, Frosty Drew Nature Center, Ocean Ridge Civic Association, Sampson Air Force Base Association, Charlestown Senior Citizens Commission and Memorial Day Parade Committee. James leaves a son, Kevin L. O’Brien and his wife Sally of South Windsor, CT, two daughters, Nancy L. Cyr and husband Gerald of Glastonbury, CT and Tracey J. Mahoney and husband Timothy of Windsor Locks, CT, eight grandchildren, Shannon O’Brien, Brendan, Andrew, Hunter and Elizabeth Cyr, Nicole, Timothy and Elliot Putnam, and three great-grandsons, Eli and Johnathan Putnam and Kaiden O’Brien. James leaves his brother, Father Edmund O’Brien and sister Mary Blank. He was predeceased by his sister Nancy Henegan. Funeral services will be private.
