James Matthew Northup

James Matthew Northup, 27, of North Kingstown, passed away tragically on Sunday, May 24th from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. James was the beloved son of April Donnelly and Dale Northup, and the loving stepson of Christopher Donnelly and Krissy Northup. He was the older brother of Brendan Donnelly and Benjamin Northup, step-brother of Michael Ross, and the grandson of Robert Barber Sr. and the late Marion Barber, as well as Louis Northup Sr. and Rachel Northup. He was the nephew of Robert Barber Jr. and Valerie Barber of North Kingstown, and Louis Northup Jr. and Tammy Northup of South Kingstown and Mark Northup of South Kingstown. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins including Cassie Barber, Jared Barber, Louis Northup III, and Michael Northup. James “Jimmy” Northup was a 2011 graduate of North Kingstown High School. He was most recently enrolled in courses at CCRI and had hoped to become a first responder. He worked full time for R. Barber Jr. Trucking, his uncle Robert (Bobby) Barber Jr.’s business in North Kingstown. James grew up with a love for dirt bikes and trucks. He was passionate about the trucks he owned and could often be found working on them in the garage. James also took joy in fishing (“gishing” as he always referred to it as) with his stepfather Chris and brother Brendan. He learned and enjoyed operating machinery with his uncle Bobby from a young age. James also enjoyed being up north in the mountains of New Hampshire riding ATV’s, snowmobiles, and hiking. James had a heart of gold and always brought his goofy sense of humor wherever he went, often times making others laugh until they cried. James’ sense of humor, his compassion, and his smile that lit up the room will never be forgotten. His friends were a special part of his life, like a second family to him. James will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. The services will be private.
