James Neil Murphy

March 15, 1935 — February 8, 2019

James Neil Murphy, 83, of Narragansett, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Pamela M. (Johnston) Murphy for fifty-six years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late James O. and Madeline (Kelly) Murphy. Mr. Murphy was Director at South County Hospital for twenty-one years and then a volunteer there for fifteen years. He received his BS and MS from The University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy. Mr. Murphy served in the United States Navy Reserve for twenty-three years. He was active in the community and served as a parish council member and trustee St. Thomas More and as a Scout Master in Narragansett. He was the loving father of Michael Murphy and his wife Mary, Michelle Lewis and her husband Everett; proud grandfather of Andrew and Garrett Lewis, Nolan and Katherine Murphy; brother of Catherine Adams. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Rd., Narragansett. Burial with military honors will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours will be Friday, February 15, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Please omit flowers, donations may be made to South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Ave, Wakefield, RI 02879.
