Dr. James J. Murdocco, 89, of Wakefield, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at home with his wife by his side. He was the loving husband of 28 years to Sandra Haines-Murdocco. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Louis and Rose (Variano) Murdocco.

Jim Graduated from Brooklyn Prep High School in 1954, then went to Holy Cross where he graduated in 1958. He worked briefly at Mary Louis Academy, in Queens, NY, an all girls school where he taught chemistry. In 1960-1962, he attended the University of Rome medical school, then finished his medical training at New York Medical School, 1963-1964. He did is first residency at Metropolitan hospital in NY, where he met his first wife, Angela DiPierro, whom he married in 1964. He then served in the Air Force in Amarillo, Texas from 1966-1968. He moved to Rhode Island, where he did another residency at Rhode Island Hospital, until 1971 when he moved to Wakefield. Angela passed away in 1994. In April of 1995 he met his second wife, Sandra, and they were married in October of 1997. He was an ENT doctor in Wakefied and Narragansett for 40 years before he retired. It was his true calling and ministry to his patients. Jim enjoyed flying small planes, especially sharing his love of aviation with his good friend, Warner Sweet.

Besides his wife, Sandra, he is survived by two adopted children, James J. Murdocco, Jr., and Gailyn Murdocco, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother, Pasquale Murdocco and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15th. 2026 at 11 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St., Wakefield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Calling hours will be Friday, August 14, 2026 from 4 to 7 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
