James S. Mullen

March 19, 1953 — June 6, 2013

James Saul Mullen, 60, of Exeter, died peacefully in Narragansett, with his cherished wife, Shirley (Revels) Mullen by his side. His daughter Amelia Rose Brown-Mullen was the joy and happiness in his life. He spoiled her and she meant everything to him. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late James F. and Frances M. (DiSanto) Mullen. Mr. Mullen graduated from La Salle Academy, attended Providence College on a basketball scholarship, and earned an Associate’s degree in business. He briefly played basketball for the Brazilian team in Brazil, before getting a job with the State of Rhode Island. Mr. Mullen worked for the State of Rhode Island Department of Transportation. He served as a supervisor for some time and was the president of his union for ten years. He later moved to the RICLASS Department, before retiring from state service. Jim’s passion was basketball, “Go Celtics!”, loved the Boston Red Sox and wore the outfits to prove it, and he would stop everything to enjoy PGA golf tournaments. He was a very social person, loved to talk to everyone. Everywhere where he went he would talk to people and no matter how the conversation was going it always found its way to his passion sports, depending on the season and who was playing. Jim held a special and understanding spot in his heart for his brother “Joey”. He also leaned on his “Aunt Eleanor and “Uncle Will” for family support. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, June 12th, in St. Thomas More Church, Narragansett.
