James "Jim" Mckenna

James J. McKenna, 82, of Narragansett, RI passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late James McKenna and Helen (Cyckevic) McKenna. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy J. McKenna.

Jim grew up in Providence but raised his family alongside his soulmate Nancy in North Providence before moving to Narragansett. Jim was always known for his baby blue eyes, caring smile, and kind heart. He was extremely generous, and selfless, always putting others before himself and offering to help anyone who needed it. Jim proudly served his country in the US Navy until returning home to follow his dream of becoming an attorney. He was an accomplished trial lawyer for over 40 years. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading, and watching his grandchildren play sports. Besides his sweet tooth and occasional cigar, Jim was known for his love of playing cards with an occasional “small” wager. His greatest joy in life, however, was the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. “Papa” has created special memories with each of us that our hearts will hold onto forever.

Jim is survived by his loving children, Christine M. McKenna and James T. McKenna. He was the loving father of the late Mathew D. McKenna. He was affectionately called “Papa” by his three grandchildren, Michael J. Gallagher, MacKenzie M. Gallagher, and Marc M. Gallagher. He also leaves behind his loving sister, Carol Lockridge, along with an aunt and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless amazing friends.

A celebration of Jim’s (“Papa”) life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, with calling hours from 9:30am -11:30am followed by a funeral service at 11:30am in Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI. Burial will follow at New Fernwood Cemetery in Kingston, RI.
