James M. Gallant, 80, of Lower Farm Road, Wakefield, died Monday. He was the husband of the late Madeline M. (Maine) Gallant. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John D. and Sarah Gallant. Mr. Gallant was a firefighter for the City of Providence, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the South Kingstown BPOE Lodge, the City of Providence Permanent Firefighters Association, the Retired Police and Firefighters Association, and the East Greenwich Firefighters Association. He is survived by three children, Teresa Gallant, with whom he lived, of Wakefield, William Gallant (PFD) of East Providence and James Gallant (PFD) of Wakefield, eight grandchildren, James Michael, Matthew, Abigail, Nicole, Marissa, Jolie, Sophia and the late Catherine Gallant. The funeral will be Thursday 10:15 AM from the AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Romuald Chapel, Atlantic Avenue, Matunuck. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are Wednesday 4-7 PM.
