James Arthur O’Brien, formerly of Danbury, CT, died suddenly on November 26, 2013 in Charlestown, RI. “Jimmy” was the beloved husband of Cely O'Brien for twenty years. He was born in Danbury, CT, on January 17, 1948 to the late Florence Collins and George F. O’Brien Sr. He attended local schools and graduated from Norwich University in 1970, after which he served as Captain in the United States Army and later served in the reserves. After his military service, he began a successful career in insurance, joining his father at George O’Brien Real Estate and Insurance Agency. He later worked with Marsh McLennon Insurance in New York City, Johnson and Higgins in Stamford, CT, and AJ Cannell Agency in Ridgefield. He was an avid golfer, softball player and deeply devoted to his family and friends. Jimmy and his wife relocated to Rhode Island in 2003 where they established themselves as successful local realtors with Randall Realtors in Charlestown and together became an integral part of the professional and social community. They were committed to raising awareness and funds for the Domestic Violence Resource Center, a safe haven for people in crisis. A private service will be held Sunday, December 1, 2013.
