Isabel Russell Crabb, aged 89 years, of Wakefield, passed away on January 24th. Mrs. Crabb was a former fashion illustrator for the Shepard Company in Providence. She was also an artist and local antique dealer for many years. She was the wife of the late Howard C. Crabb and the late James L. Russell. Born in Newark, New Jersey in 1925, she was the daughter of Scottish immigrants Robert and Margaret (Hogg) Birrell. She attended Warwick Public Schools and Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass. In 1991 she graduated with a BFA degree cum laude from U.R.I. Isabel was a prize winning painter and watercolorist. Also a member of the South County Art Association. She is survived by two sons; Kirk B. and James B. Russell of Wakefield; a daughter, Heather R. Whiting of Charlestown; a sister, Margaret Devorak of Madison, Connecticut; a sister in law, Elaine Birrell of Scituate; grandchildren; James and Elizabeth Russell, Scott Whiting and Ceilidh (Whiting) Hisey; and great grandchildren Aevan and Wyatt Hisey. She is also survived by stepson Robert Crabb and his family. Isabel was the mother of the late Scott B. Russell, and sister to the late Robert John Birrell. Calling hours are omitted. A memorial service will be held on Saturday the 31st at 2 pm in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation on North Road in Peace Dale. A collation will follow at Camden’s Restaurant (Old Mountain Lanes) in Wakefield, 3:30 to 5:30 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of R.I., or the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of South County Sunday School.
