Irving "Joe" R. Wilkinson

Irving “Joe” R. Wilkinson, 85, of West Warwick, passed away on Wednesday, July 24th. Born in South Kingstown to the late Elsie Gertrude Bowen, and growing up with his late brothers, Russel and Arthur Wilkinson as well as his sister Jean Iasimone.

Always the outdoors-man, Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Making sure to have a garden every year no matter how big or small. When he wasn’t outside, he loved watching URI basketball, the New York Mets and New England patriots. He also spent many years working for the town of Narragansett in the local school system, retiring after 30 plus years in the early 2000’s.

Joe was a devoted husband and father. Leaving behind his wife of 64 plus years, Barbara (Carpenter) Wilkinson, his sons, Bruce and Raymond Wilkinson and daughter, Nancy Gallagher. Through his children he was blessed with many grand-kids, who provided him even more joy with several great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is pre-deceased by his daughter in-law, Laurie Wilkinson (wife of Raymond).

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 30th from 4-7 pm in Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield, RI 02879. A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, July 31st at 10 am in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston RI.
